8th Annual Healthy Living Festival

Why a new location?
Our main reason for moving the festival is you, our seniors and exhibitors, during the past several years, your feedback indicated that it was time to consider new locations.
As a result, we explored several possible sites and selected the Oakland Zoo for several reasons, including:

·      The Zoo has more space for exhibitors and the Health and Resource Fair in addition to better accessibility for wheelchairs, walkers.
·   Instead of our traditional Walk-A-Thon around Lake Merritt, Festival participants can enjoy a walk through the Zoo. The Zoo has many walking areas that are flat and wheelchair accessible.
·   The Scenic Views of the Oakland hills and that Bay are breathtaking and seeing the Zoo animals is incredible. It will be a great day!
·   This year's Festival will also feature health screenings and financial planning information--both suggested to us by you/our seniors.
·   We will also kick off the Festival's first ever Medication Drop-off Program
·   it is easy to get to the Zoo by public transportation! (see below for public transportation information) Although we encourage using public transportation,
parking will also be available for $6 per car at the Zoo on Festival day. Throughout the year, United Seniors offers Travel Training workshops. We encourage participation in them to learn how to utilize public transit to the Festival.  Most important-Complete your registration form and plan to attend Alameda County's Largest senior health and resource fair.

For many, the Festival represents the best concurrent source of information about health, physical activity, nutrition, and active living.

The United Seniors staff, volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors are looking forward to your participation at another great Healthy Living Festival in 2011 and we look forward to seeing you at the Oakland Zoo, Knowland Park.

Taking public transportation to the Festival: AC Transit line #46 runs directly to the Zoo and connects with other transit lines on International and MacArthur boulevards, Bancroft Avenue, and at the Coliseum BART station. For more detailed route planning consult 511.org or contact United Seniors.

Getting to the Festival by car: We encourage you to carpool to the Festival. Coming from downtown Oakland (eastbound), take 580 to Golf Links Road. From Hayward (westbound) take the 98th Avenue exit. Remember parking is $6 per vehicle.
